Too many takeaways

Too many takeaways

An article in the metro on April 4th reported that young British people (25-34 year-olds) are consuming as many as 25 takeaways a month and spending as much as£2,620 on fast food every year!

This compares to the average Briton who eats 12 takeaways a month - which still seems like a lot of takeaways! Londoners were the worst, averaging£221.63 a month on takeaways and fast food and people from Chelmsford, Essex were the best averaging just£43.19 a month.

It's easy to understand where much of this comes from - we get home late from work, perhaps we're on our own and we think I can't be bothered to cook something now, or there may not be anything in the fridge, so we reach for the menu and order something in - how easy is that? Meanwhile we can put our feet up and see what's on the box.

And occasionally we can all do that - in moderation that's ok. But what is moderation? No more than one takeaway a week is probably what we should be aiming for and preferably less than that. A gradual reduction will have have massively reduced your dependency on takeaways in just a few months.

And yes, the alternative to a takeaway means that we have to cook. And yes, that may take 30 minutes, and after a long day at work that might not be what we feel like doing. But our nutrition is fundamental to our health, so we need to exercise a bit of discipline and do it anyway. At first it might seem like a chore, but because of the benefits - saving loads of money and feeling (and more than likely looking) much better - it's definitely worth doing.
